Walden mayor says he was deceived by Bloomberg’s anti-gun group

Walden mayor says he was deceived by Bloomberg’s anti-gun group – When New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s group “Mayors Against Illegal Guns” asked Walden Village Mayor Brian Maher to add his name to their petition affirming his support for safer communities, he gladly signed on.  But, Maher now says he was duped by the committee, which used his name in anti-gun propaganda, and the Orange County municipal official said when he asked to be removed from the campaign, he said they offered to “buy me off” with support from the...

Rochester sees spike in robberies, reignites NY SAFE Act debate

Rochester sees spike in robberies, reignites NY SAFE Act debate – High tech gadgets, like smart phones, that many of us carry every day are actually helping police solve crimes. Officers say three men robbed a man and a woman at gunpoint Wednesday night on Avon Place near South Clinton Avenue. Investigators say they stole cash, a bank card and both of the victims’ cell phones. But they didn’t get too far. Thanks to a tracking application on one of those cell phones, officers say they found the men at the Hudson Avenue Wal-Mart parking lot. News10NBC found out that this particular type of crime is on the rise. So far this year, Rochester Police say they’ve seen a significant increase in the number of robberies involving guns. So we asked state officials and local gun advocates if they thought the new gun law was helping at all. The groups remain divided. Gun owners are still upset about the SAFE Act and government officials say they are standing by their...

Bloomberg gun-control group facing internal backlash amid growing profile

Bloomberg gun-control group facing internal backlash amid growing profile – New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is losing part of his arsenal of local leaders as more and more long-time members of his gun-control group Mayors Against Illegal Guns say they aren’t happy with the coalition’s trajectory and want out. While the group apparently is growing in membership overall amid an effort to assume a larger profile in the national gun debate, it’s turning some members off. In the past five months, 50 members of the group have quit. Many say they did so because the organization abandoned its mission statement of going after illegal guns, and instead used its political clout to go after lawmakers who supported gun rights. Most recently, the mayors of Rockford, Ill., and Nashua, N.H., dropped out after saying they felt misled by...

This freedom event will be a lollapalooza

This freedom event will be a lollapalooza – The Tri-County Fair at the Altamont Fairgrounds, which can be traced back to 1819, may turn out to be small in comparison when the Freedompalooza opens on Aug. 24.  A country music festival aimed at restoring our nation to the greatness our founding fathers had in mind by exposing the truth through music, speakers and vendors, the event will feature scores of country music bands — including several that have national recognition. An array of federal, state and local pro-second amendment politicians will also be present; politicians committed to defeating gun control laws designed at abolishing our right to keep and bear arms including the NY SAFE Act — an act gunowners hope will be nullified in the courts or repealed by a Republican majority of state Senate and Assembly...
