County unplugs pistol permit pipeline – Until late last week a pistol license had not been issued in Columbia County for six months. Slowdowns in Albany had clogged the pistol permit pipeline until, without notice, 20 of the 60 tardy documents returned to the county for signature and approval by the County Court, Sheriff’s Office and the Office of the County Clerk. On July 21 Judge Jonathan Nichols received the permits and began expediting the approval process to get the permits to waiting residents. County Clerk Holly Tanner and Sheriff David Harrison said they too will work to get the delayed permits to eager firearm enthusiasts around the county. The three involved agencies made their response to the delay clear in June, saying in unison, “It’s not us!”
