Federal Gun Legislation Push – Ahead of the President’s visit, there’s a push to get more support for national gun law reform. Organizing for Action and Mayors Against Illegal Guns are pushing for new federal firearm legislation. Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan, Councilwoman Lea Webb, and several others gathered at Confluence Park and walked to Peacemakers Stage, near the Court Street Bridge Friday afternoon. The group says a bi-partisan bill in the House calls for nearly universal background checks, including at gun shows and retail stores. Mayor Ryan says new federal gun rules are needed, because some states laws aren’t as strict as New York’s. The groups want Republican Congressman Richard Hanna’s support.
