Gun festival with picnic flavor – Next to the vendor selling toy “bubble” guns, and across from the woman selling Mary Kay products, was a table filed with real knives. And a short walk from the field filled with inflatable rides, gun dealers set up tables filled with handguns and rifles. Barbecue sizzled, country music blared and fathers carried daughters on their shoulders as a wholesome scene played out Saturday at Hanofee Park. But the event was sponsored by Friends with Firearms and billed as a “gun festival.” At its heart was an effort to promote opposition to New York state’s Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (SAFE) Act, the gun-control legislation passed earlier this year, and raise money for efforts to overturn the law.
