Cuomo Might Relax Part of New Gun Law

Cuomo Might Relax Part of New Gun Law - When Governor Andrew Cuomo and his staff huddled with lawmakers earlier this year to craft the toughest gun control law in the country, he wanted to limit the capacity of magazines from 10 bullets down to five.  But State Senate Republicans pushed back, worried a five-round limit would impact the sale of some handguns, said state Sen. Carl Marcellino, a Republican from Long Island.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., told reporters Tuesday she is disappointed that her assault weapons ban will not be part of a larger bill, but acknowledged it will likely make it easier to pass gun-related legislation through the Senate.

NY considers changes in new gun control law

NY considers changes in new gun control law - Gov. Andrew Cuomo and legislative leaders are considering changes in New York's new gun control law including eliminating a provision that limits magazines to seven bullets.  Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver says that's one of several, mostly "technical" changes to the nation's toughest gun control measure rushed into law in January one month after the Newtown, Conn., shooting.  Silver says the leaders are considering the change because seven-bullet magazines aren't manufactured. The standard is 10-bullet magazines.
