    Riga joins communities opposed to new gun laws

    Riga joins communities opposed to new gun laws - The town of Riga has joined a small but growing chorus of municipalities vocalizing opposition to the state’s new gun control law.  Last week, the Riga Town Board voted 4 to 0 to adopt a resolution condemning the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (SAFE) Act of 2013.  “The Riga Town Board does hereby oppose the enactment of any legislation that would infringe upon the right of the people to keep and bear arms and consider such laws to be unnecessary and beyond lawful legislative authority granted to our state representatives,” the resolution reads.

    Rockland County Legislature votes down gun control requests to state government - The Rockland County Legislature Tuesday night voted on three separate resolutions pressing both federal and state lawmakers in Albany to implement additional gun control and mental health legislation, including amendments to the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (SAFE) Act.


    Ulster County Legislature adopts resolution opposing NY gun-control law

    Ulster County Legislature adopts resolution opposing NY gun-control law - Voting 14-8, Ulster County legislators on Tuesday adopted a resolution calling for the repeal of portions of the New York state gun-control law known as the SAFE Act.  The vote came after more than three hours of public comment that, at times, was punctuated by raucous applause, heckling and boos.  Nearly 1,000 people packed the Ulster Performing Arts Center in Midtown Kingston to speak out about the resolution, which put the Ulster County Legislature on record as opposing the state law.


    Panel refutes NY gun laws

    Panel refutes NY gun laws - Few words were spoken prior to the first vote by Greene County lawmakers demanding repeal of the New York State SAFE Act.  The all-in-favor vote for the repeal of Cuomo’s New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act came during a Special Public Safety Committee meeting Tuesday night.
