Klein: IDC and Cuomo say gun control top priority – The five-member Independent Democratic Conference just emerged from a private meeting with Gov. Andrew Cuomo and IDC leader Jeff Klein said they talked about gun control, which both parties agree will be Job One when lawmakers start their session later this month. “We need to do it in January,” said Jeff Klein. The Bronx Democrat, though, offered few specifics on the gun control legislation that Cuomo is drawing up, other than saying it aims to be the nation’s toughest law and it would likely include a ban on assault style rifles such as the AR-15/Bushmaster rifle that was used in last month’s Newtown, Conn. tragedy.
