The New York State Rifle & Pistol Association is the state’s largest and nation’s oldest firearms advocacy organization. Since 1871, our organization has been dedicated to the preservation of Second Amendment rights, firearm safety, education and training, and the shooting sports. Our membership consists of individuals and clubs throughout the state. We are a not-for-profit 501(c)4 organization and the official NRA-affiliated State Association in New York.

 

Gun owners: Just say no to the SAFE Act

Gun owners: Just say no to the SAFE Act – he New York SAFE Act may have been passed by the state more than a year ago, but there has been no let-up in the opposition posed by gun owners to the law that restricts some gun rights, including “high-capacity magazines”, limiting all magazines to ten rounds. The law also requires background checks for ammunition purchases, and dealers are required to report all such purchases. Other components of the law include the creation of a registry of assault weapons, the requirement that mental health professionals report when a patient makes a credible threat of harming others, broadening the definition of an assault weapon, background checks for all gun sales, and increases in penalties for shooting first responders, among others. After youths’ deaths, victims’ families push for gun-safety law – Gun-control advocates are at the Capitol today to push for a bill that would require additional storage requirements for gun owners.  New Yorkers Against Gun Violence and victims’ families are seeking legislative approval for “Nicholas’s Bill,” which would would require the safe storage of all guns not in the immediate possession or control of the gun owner.  The legislation would require guns to be put in a safe storage depository or equipped with a locking device, with the goal of preventing access by children and others who should not have access to them, the group... read more
