The New York State Rifle & Pistol Association is the state’s largest and nation’s oldest firearms advocacy organization. Since 1871, our organization has been dedicated to the preservation of Second Amendment rights, firearm safety, education and training, and the shooting sports. Our membership consists of individuals and clubs throughout the state. We are a not-for-profit 501(c)4 organization and the official NRA-affiliated State Association in New York.

Ulster panel recommends lawmakers withhold county seal from SAFE Act enforcement effort – Ulster County legislators plan to ask the state not to use the county’s seal when requiring gun owners to renew their pistol permits every five years under the SAFE Act.  The Laws and Rules Committee of the county Legislature voted unanimously Monday evening to oppose the use of the county seal, said committee member Kenneth Ronk.  “This is not for or against the Safe Act,” said Ronk, R-Shawangunk. “This is just about the state overreaching and using county resources, essentially, to do a state... read more

Assault weapon deadline arrives

Assault weapon deadline arrives – New Yorkers are required to register their assault weapons under the state’s new gun-control law today — or face time behind bars.  Today is the deadline for state residents who own guns labeled as assault weapons under the New York SAFE Act to register them with the state. Assault weapons are those with a “military-style feature” such as a detachable magazine, pistol grip or telescoping stock.  If gun owners fail to register their firearms today, they could be charged with a class A misdemeanor and spend up to a year in county jail.
