Session will see a push for new gun safety law – New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, one of the state’s most prominent pro-gun control groups, is planning to advocate for new legislation to be introduced by Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, D-Scarsdale, aimed at keeping guns out of reach from children.  In New York state there is no law requiring gun owners to safely secure their guns and keep them out of the reach of children. Although the Secure Ammunition and Firearms Act, or SAFE Act, passed last year includes a provision requiring gun owners to safely store their guns away from any household member who has been convicted of a felony or domestic violence crime, has been involuntarily committed or is currently under an order of protection, the law does not require guns to be safely stored away from children in the house.
