Owen H. Johnson Sportsman of the Year Award
This award was created in 1996 as a joint venture of NYSRPA, Peconic River Sportsmen’s Club and the Suffolk Alliance of Sportsmen, Inc. and is named after Senator Owen H. Johnson, a strong supporter and defender of the rights of gun owners and sportsmen.
The award is presented annually to that person recognized as the one who has provided a significant contribution to the cause of sportsmen in the state. Each year the responsibility of naming the recipient of the award is rotated among the three organizations which sponsort, first in 1997 by PRSC, in 1998 by SASI and 1999 by NYSRPA. The award will continue to be presented for a minimum of 36 years. The NYSRPA Board of Directors as a whole serves as committee for this award.
