350 Pack SAFE Act Forum – Thursday night, at least 350 people packed an auditorium at Genesee Community College to vent their frustrations about the NY SAFE Act.  The panel mostly agreed with what audience members had to say about the controversial law.  Some audience members worried that law enforcement officers would start going to their homes to search for illegal weapons without... read more

DiPietro starting effort to repeal new gun law

DiPietro starting effort to repeal new gun law – Assemblyman David DiPietro has started an effort to repeal the state’s controversial new firearms law.  DiPietro, R-East Aurora, is sponsoring a bill which would repeal the NY SAFE Act, effective immediately.  It has 11 co-sponsors but no counterpart has appeared so far in the state Senate.  “In the wake of the gross violations of the right to bear arms, the right to stand against improper search and seizure, and the right to due process on one of our citizens, Gov. Cuomo and the liberal left are allowing the provisions of the SAFE Act to continue to roll out,” DiPietro said in a news release issued April 15, the day the provision limiting the number of bullets allowed in a magazine became... read more

Pistol license applications on the rise in Oneida County

Pistol license applications on the rise in Oneida County – Pistol license applications are the hottest ticket in Oneida County. The number of pistol licenses issued in the county has grown from 343 in 2011 to 541 in 2012.  In 2011, 19% of the permits were issued to women; in 2012, women accounted for 34% of all new permit holders.  “Americans get a little leery, I think, when they think that their rights might be taken away from them,” says Dan Sullivan, who attributes part of the meteoric rise of gun owners in the county to stricter gun control laws. Sullivan heads up Oneida County’s pistol licensing office for county licensing officer Judge Michael... read more

Some gun dealers balking at transfers

Some gun dealers balking at transfers – At least two gun dealers in the Rochester area say they will not facilitate transfers of firearms between two private parties. A third plans to charge more than what the law allows. The New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act, the controversial new gun laws passed Jan. 15, requires all people selling a gun to someone else to conduct this process through a federally licensed firearms dealer. The only exception is for immediate family members. Dealers are not required to perform this service. The dealer must run a background check and cannot charge more than $10. Dealers say the process is worth more than... read more

Support for N.Y. governor wanes after gun law

Support for N.Y. governor wanes after gun law – Support for the re-election of New York’s governor has eroded in the past four months, a Siena College poll found.  The poll released Monday found that 52% of voters outside the New York City metro area “prefer someone else” to the Democratic governor in 2014 when he will seek re-election; 42% selected him. New York gun control: Hudson Valley cops balk at enforcement as laws take effect

New York gun control: Hudson Valley cops balk at enforcement as laws take effect – As the primary enforcers of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s sweeping gun control laws, state troopers hear directly from New York gun owners — and so far, it’s been an earful.  So much so that, last week, the New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association issued a statement distancing troopers from Cuomo and warning of public resentment toward law enforcement since the gun law’s... read more

U.S. Senate praised for upholding Constitution

U.S. Senate praised for upholding Constitution – As the citizens of Boston begin to put some normalcy back in their lives, sympathetic folks around here also look forward to better days ahead — especially those who hunt and fish.  Gunowners are no different. They’re getting fed up with progressives on both a state and national level of wanting to deprive them of their constitutional right to keep and bear arms. That’s why legitimate gunowners across the nation applauded those U.S. Senators who adhered to their oath of office of upholding the U.S. Constitution by voting down both the Feinstein gun ban by a 60-percent margin (60 nays, 40 yeas) and the Manchin-Toomey-Schumer proposal by a vote of... read more

Could Obama’s gun-control push cost Democrats the Senate?

Could Obama’s gun-control push cost Democrats the Senate? – So far, we’ve heard a lot of bluster coming from Barack Obama and his allies on Capitol Hill about how the voters will punish Republicans for opposing a series of gun-control measures that didn’t even keep all the Democrats in the fold.  The real problem with “the audacity of mope,” as National Hotline’s Josh Kraushaar writes today, is that voters may end up punishing Democrats in key 2014 Senate contests.  Obama and the Democrats just learned the wrong lesson over their spectacular and embarrassing failure, and may lose the Senate as a... read more
