What is the NYSRPA?

The New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. (NYSRPA) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Second Amendment rights, firearm safety, education and training, and the shooting sports. NYSRPA is affiliated with the National Rifle Association of America as the official NRA State Association for New York and is by far, the oldest State Association in the country, since 1888. Our original predecessor organization, the New York Rifle Club, was formed in September of 1871, two months before the NRA, making the NYSRPA the oldest, continually operating, civil rights advocacy organization in the United States, and second only in the world to the British Rifle Association. Membership consists of individuals and clubs throughout the state. We are actively involved in all these areas:

• Legislation and Political Awareness: NYSRPA maintains active personal contact with legislators in Albany and at the local level to monitor all proposed and pending bills which affects the rights of New Yorkers to own and responsibly use firearms. NYSRPA advises lawmakers accordingly, then keeps its membership advised of the status of bills and the voting records of their representatives. NYSRPA publishes Legislative Reports every two to three weeks throughout the legislative session.
  
  

• Competitions and Training: NYSRPA is the governing body for the conduct of multi-level competitive events that select state champions in various shooting sports. New York State is represented at US national matches by NYSRPA senior and junior teams. These programs also provide a framework for education, training, and a wide variety of individual and informal participation. NYSRPA has active pistol, smallbore, high power rifle, muzzle loading, and sporterifle teams across the state.
  
  

• Junior Activities: NYSRPA supports a statewide junior education, training and competitive program which introduces youth to the safe and responsible enjoyment of marksmanship sports. The program produces good citizens as well as champions to represent New York State. NYSRPA also supports youth with annual college scholarship. NYSRPA sponsors state wide shooting championship matches around the state. NYSRPA sponsors junior teams to the National Matches at Camp Perry every summer.
  
  

• Women in the Shooting Sports: In co-operation with NRA, NYSRPA offers a wide variety of interests for women: Personal Protection, Right to Carry, Education, Competition, and Refuse to Be a Victim Seminars.
  

NYSRPA is the only New York State organization dedicated and organized to accomplish the WHOLE job for New York's gun owners.
