Herkimer Co. Legislature opposes state’s new gun law – Herkimer County Democratic Legislator Gary Hartman stepped up to the podium Wednesday evening in the county Legislative Chambers, the room silent, waiting. “I understand the passion and emotion running throughout the Valley as a result over some uncertainty of how Remington Arms ownership will react to (the state’s new firearms act),” he began, noting that he supports the firearms manufacturer in Ilion. “I would be all for a resolution supporting the Arms, but this resolution goes beyond that.” Hartman was the sole no vote in a resolution that opposes the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act of 2013.
