Lowey Calls for Immediate Restrictions on Online Ammo Purchasing and Other Commonsense Restrictions in Wake of Oak Creek and Aurora Shootings – Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-Westchester/Rockland) was joined today by local law enforcement officials to call on Congress to pass the Stop Online Ammunition Sales Act and other measures to protect the American public from senseless gun violence. “Assault weapons and high-caliber ammunition should not be available to the general public.  They are not used to protect one’s home and are not used for hunting,” said Lowey. “They are, quite simply, weapons of war designed to kill as many people as possible as quickly as possible.  With the recent tragedies in Aurora and Oak Creek, Congress must take action to prevent gun violence.”
