Nozzolio reintroduces bill to repeal SAFE Act – It’s a long shot, but state Sen. Michael Nozzolio is rebooting a legislative effort to repeal the SAFE Act, a gun control measure approved by the state Legislature in early 2013 and signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Nozzolio, R-Fayette, reintroduced his bill, S511, that would repeal nearly all of the law’s key provisions. The legislation has five cosponsors, including state Sen. John DeFrancisco and state Sen. Jim Seward. While polls show a majority of New Yorkers support the SAFE Act, the law has been criticized by gun rights groups and some legislators, including Nozzolio and others who represent upstate districts.
