The New York State Rifle & Pistol Association is the state’s largest and nation’s oldest firearms advocacy organization. Since 1871, our organization has been dedicated to the preservation of Second Amendment rights, firearm safety, education and training, and the shooting sports. Our membership consists of individuals and clubs throughout the state. We are a not-for-profit 501(c)4 organization and the official NRA-affiliated State Association in New York.

Is This The Gun Case The U.S. Supreme Court Will Take? – Since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Heller v. D.C. (2008) that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to bear arms and then ruled in McDonald v. Chicago (2010) that this right also restricts state and local governments, the high court has opted not to hear cases that might further define gun rights. This has been a little surprising, as some lower courts have actually produced majority opinions that are critical of decisions reached by other courts. After Upstate NY prison break, requests rise for pistol permits – With two escaped killers on the loose, the Clinton County, N.Y., clerk’s office has seen a rise in the number of requests for pistol permits. “We typically don’t get more than one a day, but we probably have at least 12 this week,” said Mary Lavorando, of the Clinton County Clerk’s Office in Plattsburgh. “It seems like more people have been picking up applications,” she said Friday afternoon. “But it can take eight or nine weeks for approval. Albany may require gun owners to lock up their weapons – City gun owners may soon be required to keep their firearms under lock and key at home. A proposed law vetted Monday by city lawmakers would force gun owners to store their weapons in a “secure container” or disable them with a trigger lock whenever they are “out of his or her immediate possession or control” at home.
