The New York State Rifle & Pistol Association is the state’s largest and nation’s oldest firearms advocacy organization. Since 1871, our organization has been dedicated to the preservation of Second Amendment rights, firearm safety, education and training, and the shooting sports. State attorneys general urge U.S. ATF to discard proposed ammo ban – The attorneys general of Montana and 22 other states are urging U.S. firearms regulators to drop a proposed ban on a type of ammunition popular with shooting sports enthusiasts but which regulators said could be used by criminals to harm police. The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives last month proposed prohibiting the manufacture and sale for the general public of a certain type of military-grade ammunition, M855 5.56 mm, widely used in the AR-15 rifle, because it can pierce protective vests or soft body armor worn by police. ATF shelves controversial bullet ban proposal – The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is shelving a controversial proposal to ban a popular type of bullet, amid opposition from hundreds of congressional lawmakers.  The ATF said in a statement on Tuesday it would not seek to issue the final guidelines “at this time.” The proposal pertained to M855 “green tip” ammunition, used in the AR-15 rifle; regulators looked at banning it because can pierce police body armor.  The ATF said in a statement on Tuesday it would not seek to issue final guidelines “at this time.” The agency said it will instead wait until Americans have finished commenting on the federal regulations and evaluate their comments and suggestions before “proceeding with any framework.”  The statement follows 52 senators and 238 House members joining in opposition to any attempt the Obama administration might make to ban the... read more
