Pistol permit wait could be shortened with Onondaga County Clerk’s help – The 14-month wait in Onondaga County to apply for a pistol permit could slashed to two months or less under a new plan that will shift some of the work to the county clerk.  The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for issuing the permits, but the clerk’s office has agreed to help with the initial paperwork to ease the backlog of permit requests, said John Balloni, the chief administrative deputy for the sheriff’s office.  The sheriff’s office would still be responsible for the necessary background checks and the issuance of the licenses, he said.
