Sen. Seward: Safe Act hindered efforts to get Remington to expand in New York – State Sen. James Seward said Monday that New York’s Safe Act played a role in Remington Arms Co.’s decision to open a factory in Alabama rather than expand in the Upstate New York village of Ilion. “The most important part of this announcement is that Ilion will remain the home to over 1,300 Remington Arms employees,” Seward, R-Oneonta, said in a statement. “The underlying story, though, is the reasons why the company is expanding in Alabama and not here at home.Clearly, the Safe Act played a role, hindering efforts to bring this expansion to New York.”
