Sheriff: Lack of staff slows pistol permit application process – The Herkimer County Sheriff’s Office has seen the number of pistol permit applications nearly quadruple in four years.  For now, there is one full-time clerk to work in the permit office.  The office is looking to get permission from the Herkimer County Legislature to hire another full-time clerk to help process the ever-increasing stack of applications in the office, as well as sort through old records in the Herkimer County Jail, said county Sheriff Christopher Farber.
