Tioga Country opposes new state gun laws – In a sweeping move at its latest legislative work session, the Tioga County Legislature resolved, among other things, to oppose and request the repeal of the recently enacted NY SAFE ACT. The legislature opposed “any legislation, including the sections within the NY SAFE ACT (Chapter 1 of Laws of 2013), which infringe upon the right of the people to keep and bear arms” and further resolved that it considers “such laws to be unnecessary and beyond lawful legislative authority granted to our State representatives.” The legislature also “strongly encourages” members of the state legislature to hold public hearings to address the “issue of gun violence in a way that will produce meaningful results.”
